FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT'S "THE CLUB" ALL ABOUT?

it's all about stepping out of the regular routine of everyday living and hitting the open road.  With a big, van full of people.   Visiting new places.

We take campers to some of the most "out of the ordinary" places we can find --- anywhere.   Cookouts over "an open campfire".  Exploring the great outdoors.

Whether it's The Grand Canyon, Grand Staircase, Utah, Zion National Park, or even the local beaches, we "camp out" at the most exotic places around.

Back to nature.   Getting "out of town" for a road trippin' adventure.

HOW MUCH DO AA TICKETS COST?

On average, most Adventure Avenue "road trips" have a standard AA Ticket priced @ $49/day.  (per person)   Depending on the location.

A wide variety of choices.

AA Ticket prices include driver, insurance, vehicle expenses, lots of gas, parking fees, toll roads, with a percentage also contributed towards the general campground fund - which includes each person's share of campground fees, split with the entire group.  If some people prefer the "optional" upgrade for motels, AA Ticket also includes a complimentary "taxi service" between the campground and your motel of choice, near the main campground.

Every trip is different and unique.   Costs fluctuate, slightly ---depending on the location.   Some locations might be slightly higher.      Some locations slightly lower.

The general average ----across the board ---is $49 per day.

 HOW DO I GET THERE?

"FREE" Pickups and DropOffis are located @ MetroLink, in Los Angeles, and BART in San Francisco.  Using our online registration forms, all the campers "vote" between preferred stations.  The designated station is always "centrally located" between all the campers.

Campers can also request "a custom pickup" at their front door -------for an additional charge.  Similiar to an airport shuttle ------straight to your front door.

Otherwise, Pickups and DropOffs are always "FREE" at MetroLink or BART stations, or other public transit stations with "FREE" overnight parking.

CAN I COME ALONE?

Absolutely.  Not everybody in the club knows everybody else. Most people register as "individuals" or "couples".  You are never outnumbered by a bunch of people who already know each other.  You might see the same people on the next trip, or entirely different people.   Meet new people.  See new things

People "watch out" for each other - on the road.   You are part of a group, the entire weekend. No group ever dominates, because Adventure Avenue camping trips are generally individual passengers travelling with several other individual passengers.

Meeting new people is always part of "the big adventure".

If you ever went camping with the YMCA, you can easily "hit the road" @ Adventure Avenue. We are similiar to YMCA camping trips, or The Boy or Girl Scouts, offering the general community an outlet for taking exciting "out of town" or "out of state" camping adventures with big groups of people.

However, there are no minor children @ Adventure Avenue.   We exist for "adults only" over the age of 18.

We assemble all kinds of different people together.

WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE
MY OWN CAMPING GEAR?

Adventure Avenue realizes not everybody has camping gear.  We also do not expect people to "invest" in thousands of dollars worth of equipment just to participate on camping trips.

We encourage an Equipment Share Policy on every camping trip, and each person generally donates (1) peice of camping equipment. If you are lacking any critical gear necessary to go camping, just let us know what you don't have and we will match you up with people who are willing to donate extra equipment, for public use. If you really want to go camping a lot with Adventure Avenue, you'll generally need to acquire 1 primary peice of equipment.

AA is a co-op.    Everybody shares.   Everybody cares.

CAN I BRING MY CHILDREN?

Regrettably, no. Adventure Avenue is an "adult only" recreational club.

No minor aged children.  All participants must be legal adults over 18.

If necessary, provide your Drivers License to show proof of age.

WHAT ABOUT FOOD?

As a club policy, we do not "dictate" what people eat by forcing pre-planned meal schedule on all our campers.  Food is generally on your own.  At your own expense.

We also do not include food costs when calculating 99% of the AA Ticket.

An exception is made for "in town" camping trips in Southern California.

For "in town " camping trips a campfire dinner is always included.
For "out of town" or "out of state" camping trips ---people make their own decisions.

During the day the van(s) make plenty of stops at restaurants, cafes, fast food joints, and local grocery stores.  At night, we generally cook around "the campfire".  Unless people prefer to go out to dinner somewhere.   Open campfirepits are always included at the campgrounds.

If we happen to find a "free" campground with space available, then, the camp fund is used for other expenses instead, such as "a big campfire dinner" for everybody.  On rare occasions where the campground fees are "waived" we then use the camp fund for other purposes, and "donate" funds to shared food expenses.

WHERE ARE WE GOING?

Everybody "votes" for campgrounds using our online surveys.

Several options are always provided ------ for any camping trip.

At the main office, we count up all the "votes" and announce to all the club members how it worked out.  Basically, each and every club member takes part in "dictating" the direction of any camping trip.   Adventure Avenue acts in the role as a mediator, counting the "votes".   We don't choose the locations.  Club members choose the locations.   All we do is provide a nuetral role ---- keeping all the "votes" together.

Majority Rules --- for all camping trips.

Adventure Avenue "rotates" different camping trips from our standardized list of locations.  If your own preferred camping trip is "outvoted" by other people on one particular weekend, you'll simply have to wait until the same location is re-scheduled, on a different weekend.

WHEN ARE WE GOING?

We are a recreational  club that operates when everybody's schedule is "in sync."  Because it's "a group effort" there are different people on different schedules.

The year round travel schedule  = Hit or Miss.

Not everybody "in the club" registers for --- the exact same thing --- at the exact same time.    We schedule proposed camping trips for each weekend, however not all trips "hit the road".   Our standard policy is that there is a minimum of (4) people required for any camping trip.  If less than (4) people register --- on any weekend --- the camping trip is "Cancelled."

All camping trip locations are offered on cycles of rotation.

For Out of State Camping Trips, people choose the location first.
However, there is "a waiting period" until a minimum (10) people have registered for the same location.  Then everybody "votes" for the travel dates most people prefer.

HOW DO I GET THERE?

FROM SAN FRANCISCO:   Most van pickups occur at a BART station.  The BART station may fluctuate from one trip to the next, but BART is basically accessible to the entire city.  Generally, if you can get to BART, you can easily "connect" with Adventure Avenue vans leaving town ---all over the state.

FROM LOS ANGELES:  PickUps and Drops typically at a MetroRail station, or at Hollywood and Vine.

FROM LAS VEGAS:  A central location -----decided by the group.

I'M NOT A CAMPER.
WHY SHOULD I BOTHER?

Yes, it's true.   Outdoor camping is "the golden rule" @ AA.

But, the good news is, we also accommodate people who don't want to go camping.  For those of you who ain't "outdoor" type people, you can make your own choice each night to upgrade to an optional motel, hotel, or any other personal lodging arrangement you choose, near the selected campground. The additional expenses for hotel rooms are not included as part of any standard AA Ticket. However, a percentage of the general camping fund is always set aside for "extra gas" driving to and from the campground and optional motels.  Additionally, other people on the trip might be willing to "share expenses" to upgrade to a motel with you.  Adventure Avenue can tell you before the van(s) leave town, exactly how many people are going to camp, and how many people prefer "upgrades" to a motel, and are willing to "split the costs" for overnight accommodations "indoors", instead of "outdoors".

You can still get out and "explore the west" with us.

And visit California's most popular tourist destinations road trippin' @ Adventure Avenue

Simply make a personal "upgrade" to a motel or resort accommodation, at your own expense.
